6 Unique Activities that Help to Connect Parents with their Kids

Know the importance of parent – children relationship. Here are a few simple, yet mighty effective tips to strengthen the parent –child bond.

Play together

People often tend to take play….what else…but playfully! This should not be the case. Remember, kids are born to play. Not only does it develop in their physical development, it also helps with other things such as improved cognitive abilities, as well as with their leadership and social skills. When parents too begin to participate in their play, it is double the fun for kids! (And for parents too). It could be any sports or game. It could be soccer, cricket, badminton, or indoor board games or a simple sprint match in the neighborhood park. There is no better bonding activity perhaps than play. So, have fun as a family, improve your health and strengthen relationships with your kids.

Participate in their homework

Help your children with their homework. While it is not necessary that you should be an expert in a subject, just the fact that you are helping them means a lot to kids. Being involved in their academics will help you find out about their favorite subjects and the ones where they need to put in more work. Take active interest in the activities that they are assigned in the school. Your mere presence with them is sure to add to their motivation levels to do well in studies. Plus, of course it strengthens the bond between parents and kids.

Be a good listener

A lot of parents these days make the mistake of not listening to their kids enough, due to their tight work schedules. This should not be the case. Make sure that you are spending at least some quality time with them. Talking with them. And more importantly, listening to what they are saying. If you give them a patient hearing, they will feel that you care for them.

Let meal times be family time

This is one more trick to ensure that you get to spend some quality bonding time with your kids. Make sure that the family is together on the dining table, for at least one meal in a day. The best time is perhaps dinner time. It gives everyone in the house to share about the happenings in the day in a relaxed manner.

Stick to a routine

As parents it is your duty to fix a routine in the family life. Sit down with the family and make the rules. Allow children their say in setting the standards. The routine should include everything, right from the time every member wakes up to the time when they go to bed.

Everyone should follow the timings without fail. Similarly, make rules for the usage of electronic gadgets like smartphones, TV or laptops. For example, let there be a rule that no one would use them from at least an hour before dinner. A routine will not only help strengthen family bonds, it will also help build discipline in kids.

Go out on vacations

There is perhaps no better fun way than vacations to strengthen family bonds. One important thing that parents need to remember is to always consult their kids when planning for a vacation. Remember, the vacation is for the entire family and they too have their choice. This very step is enough to make them feel valued. Let them be involved in the whole planning process. What is the mode of transportation to take? What about the accommodation? Which are the attractions that need to be visited? Make your vacation truly memorable.
