India Win T20 World Cup 2024 ! June 29 th , 2024 will written in the annals of India’s cricketing history as a golden day. India’s long wait for a world cup title in cricket ended on the day, with the men in blue beating South Africa by 7 seven runs in a humdinger of a final at Kensington Oval, Barbados. The thrilling final was a befitting end to the exciting tournament. Both teams fought hard and India came out on top. India made 176/6 after winning the toss and electing to bat.

India lost three quick wickets before Virat Kohli and Axar Patel did the damage control with a 76 run stand. Later on Kohli combined with Shivam Dube for a 57 run stand. Kohli’s 76 was the highest score by an Indian batsman in their innings.

South Africa too lost two early wickets before a stand between Quinton de Cock and Tristan Stubbs. For South Africa the main scorers were Quinton de Cock with 39, Tristan Stubbs with 31 and Heinrich Klaasen who made a brilliant 52 from just 27 deliveries.

In fact, Klaasen seemed to be running away with the match with an audacious display of power hitting, in the company of David Miller. However, Klaasen’s dismissal to Hardik Pandya and a superb spell of two overs by Jasprit Bumrah, who was ably supported by Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya, made India victorious. Another highlight of the match was a brilliant catch on the boundary line by Suryakumar Yadav of Miller in the last over.

The win ended India’s 17 year wait for a T20 World Cup title. Remember, India had last won the T20 World Cup in 2007 (the inaugural edition) under the legendary M.S.Dhoni. India also won the 2011 50 overs World Cup under Dhoni in 2011.
