Top 10 Scientists of India ! India has always been known for its scientists. These extraordinarily talented individuals have through their tireless pursuits in their respective fields made us all proud. Let us take a look at some of these internationally acclaimed scientists.

Sir C.V.Raman

Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman, (7 November 1888 – 21 November 1970) was a renowned physicist, born in Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu. He is known for his research in the field of light scattering. On 28 th February, 1928 Dr. C.V.Raman discovered a phenomenon of light scattering, not known till then, which came to be known as the ‘Raman Effect’. February 28 th every year is commemorated as ‘The National Science Day’ in our country in honour of the great man.

Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose

Did you know that a crater on the moon is named in honour of a renowned Indian scientist? Yes, we are talking about an eminently versatile genius – Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose (30 November 1858 – 23 November 1937). His interests spanned biology, physics and botany. Plus he was also a science fiction writer. Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose’s earned international fame for his works such as invention of ‘Crescograph’, with which he measured response of plants to different stimuli and his research on microwave radio. In 1917 he established one of the country’s premier research institution, ‘Bose Institute’.

Srinivasa Ramanujan

Since ancient times India has been known all over the world for its path breaking work in the field of mathematics. One of the most well-known mathematician to emerge from India during the modern times was Srinivasa Ramanujan (22 December 1887 – 26 April 1920). Known for his work in areas such as continued fractions, number theory and infinite series, to mention only some. Born in Erode, Tamil Nadu, this mathematical genius died young, aged only 32. Many of his solutions in the field of equations and identities have led to opening up of new areas of research. Srinivasa Ramanujam, The Great Mathematician !! ‘The Boy Who Dreamed of Infinity’
